A BEAUTIFUL Belper garden opened its gates for charity – and raised a magnificent £850.

Kathy and Jim Fairweather welcomed 175 members of the public into their picturesque garden on Windmill Rise.

It was all in aid of the National Gardens Scheme (NGS) initiative, which raises money for charity.

Kathy said: “It was a very good day and the weather was lovely.

“Everybody enjoyed it and we enjoyed it.”

Kathy and Jim host an open garden event every June and August. This is the third year they have done it.

“This August was our best-ever, it was the most we have raised,” said Kathy. “Over the two events this year we have raised almost £1,500 for charity.”

There were also plants for sale, as well as refreshments in the form of home made cakes and cream teas.
