BELPER’S bid to win the prestigious Britain in Bloom title has began in earnest this week.
Cllr John Nelson, who has been the driving force behind the town’s In Bloom success, led an open meeting at St John’ Chapel in Belper on Wednesday, February 22.
About 15 people were at the meeting to find out what they could do to help with Belper’s bid for the national accolade.
Cllr Nelson said: “It went well. It was just to get the ball rolling.
“I told them all about In Bloom, what it entails.
“The main thing is that we get across that this is a community effort. We want everyone to get involved.”
Sharon Thomas, of Amber Valley Borough Council, gave a presentation explaining why folk should get involved.
Sharon is also a Britain in Bloom judge.
Cllr Nelson said a group of volunteers had agreed to take over keeping the town’s railway station looking sparkling.
There will be another public meeting in April, which Cllr Nelson urged Belper people to get involved with.
