A Belper butcher is experiencing a boom - both in terms of store and online customers.

Jon Steel, of the Holbrook Meat Shop, is fast approaching 10,000 likes on the shop’s Facebook page.

“I offer a 24/7 service and am on call all the time,” said Jon, aged 35. We’re a high class traditional butchers with a modern twist and we are out to beat the supermarkets.”

The original store, in Holbrook, relocated to Belper earlier this year and Jon continues to interact with old users via the social media site.

Customers can place orders on the site and then collect from the shop at a time that is convenient to them.

Jon says the idea came to him a few years ago and that his previous employers have now reverted to copying his idea - such is the success of the system.

Jon said: “I originally had the idea at my last place of work.

“However, my boss didn’t want to do it for fear of it “cheapening” their image. But since they’ve seen how successful mine is, they have started their own. We opened in Belper in September 2012 and when we opened we had 612 likes - we are now nearly at 10,000.”

And despite the booming success of the shop’s online dealings, Jon says he still sees a healthy amount of customers come through the Bridge Street shop.

“Our furthest customer comes from the west coast of Wales. It’s very hard work but very enjoyable.

“It’s great to have a job and make a living out of something which I’m passionate about.”
