If it costs £16,500 to provide Belper with public toilets then that is less than a pound per year per resident, surely we can afford that!
Amber Valley expects the same people to pay much more to park in the town so why worry about such a trivial expense? Public toilets are essential if people are going to be attracted to shop in the town. You may not need them everytime but everyone needs them sometimes. The small businesses paying business rates will lose out, surely they would not mind bearing this small cost along with resident ratepayers? The Food Festival and other town centre events will have added costs for hiring Portaloos and there will be other costs associated with replacing the existing facilities. The River Gardens are too far from the town centre and will be locked at night in future.
The decision makes absolutely no sense.
