Chip shop is given go-ahead to sell alcohol

Alcohol is now being served at a Belper fish & chip shop following a refurbishment.

Georges Tradition on Bridge Street is now licensed and offering beer and wine.

The new offering came after the shop was recently re-launched after a revamp of the eating area.

The chain started as a family business back in 1967, with Belper being the first store.

Nine successful shops are now in operation in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Staffordshire including nine takeaways, four restaurants and a pub.

The firm, which has its headquarters at Pride Park, Derby was shortlisted for UK Fish & Chip Retailer of the Year in 2010 and in 2011.

There are now plans to give stores in Chilwell and Long Eaton a makeover following the project at Belper.
