Free class will help carers spot symptoms

Malnutrition in older people is the focus of a free class being offered to carers.

Derbyshire County Council is running the Eat Well class at Belper Adult Community Education Centre, Holbrook Road on Tuesday, January 22.

The three hour session from 6pm to 9pm is aimed at people who know or care for someone who has lost weight and struggles with a small appetite.

Those who attend will learn how to tackle the problem and spot the symptoms of malnutrition.

Councillor Carol Hart, cabinet member for public health, said: “Malnutrition and dehydration cause serious health problems – including infections such as colds and flu, depression and falls. It’s also a common cause of admission to hospitals and care homes and costs the taxpayer billions.”
