John Kirkland, chairman of Heage-based construction firm Bowmer and Kirkland Group, has surged up The Sunday Times Rich List, jumping from 308th last year to 203rd.
According to the national newspaper, Mr Kirkland and his family have increased their wealth from £234 million to £440 million.
It also represents a huge increase on the £29 million the list said Mr Kirkland was worth in 2010.
It means that he is now the seventh richest person in the East Midlands.
The richest person in Derbyshire remains the Duke of Devonshire.
But despite increasing his wealth by £30 million to a total of £700 million in the past 12 months, he has slipped two places down the rich list to 112th.
Bowmer & Kirkland employs around 350 people at the company’s headquarters in Church Street, Heage.
It also employs more than 1,400 people across Britain as a whole.
The Times newspaper produces the eagerly awaited list each year charting the country’s and world’s richest people and how much they are worth.
