MP on trains bid

BELPER’S MP Pauline Latham welcomed a delegation of Derby City councillors to the Houses of Parliament for a meeting of the Government’s Transport Select Committee over the decision to give a £1.4 billion trains contract to German firm Siemens ahead of Derbyshire company Bombardier.

The committee decided the Thameslink Contract would not be reviewed or put out to tender again, event though it puts 1,400 Bombardier jobs at risk.

Tory Mrs Latham had previously expressed her concern at the way the contract was decided, saying she felt not enough consideration was given to the impact in Derby.
