Mid-Derbyshire MP Pauline Latham OBE has hailed the latest unemployment figures for the area, which reveal a continuing drop in unemployment.
Data for Mid-Derbyshire shows the number of jobless residents stands at a record low of just 266 people - just 0.6 per cent of the working age population. The figure is also a significant milestone for the constituency with over 1,000 jobs secured since May 2010 when the unemployment count stood at 1,267.
Youth unemployment in Mid-Derbyshire has also hit a milestone low. In November, there were 50 people aged between 16-24 unemployed, down from 350 in May 2010.
Mrs Latham said the figures were “good news” for Mid-Derbyshire families in the run-up to Christmas, “with employment at a record high – driven by an increase in full-time work - and wages continuing to grow”.
She added: “As part of Small Business Saturday, I heard from businesses who are expanding and looking to move to bigger premises. Behind every one of these figures is someone with the security of a pay packet and the pride of a job.”
