The managing director of Belper boiler maker Vaillant believes that a recent Coronation Street plot may save lives.
Jim Moore praised ITV for the storyline which has seen a character fighting for their life after allowing their boiler to be repaired by an amateur.
The Street’s Fiz Stape recently became the victim of Carbon Monoxide poisoning following a botched repair of her boiler by on-screen partner Tyrone.
Although the storyline provided entertainment for millions, Mr Moore also believes there will be positive safety implications.
He said: “Public awareness of the consequences of cutting corners when it comes to boiler installation and servicing is worryingly low, so it is very encouraging that the subject is being responsibly addressed – especially by a TV series with an audience of this magnitude. It can be tempting to have your boiler installed or maintained on the cheap but it can also be fatal.”
