Time capsules showing what life is like in Belper today are set to be buried in the town’s Beaurepaire Gardens for 100 years.
People, societies and groups are being urged to be part of the venture by including their own capsule in an underground vault.
Each participating group will receive a special airtight box into which items relating their life or activity will be placed for residents of the town in 2113.
The idea was dreamed up by a Community Payback worker helping to install new seats and a water feature in the town’s gardens and has been brought to life by Peter Davies, who runs the gardens.
Mr Davies said: “I’m hoping that we will get around 60 to 70 capsules. They are quite small so people taking part have really got to think how they want to portray the town.
“I will be doing one contain ing documents and photographs showing the history of the garden.
“It has been part of the Cottage Hospital and also grew produce for the Strutts ov er the years.”
Each capsule costs £15 and the closing date is Saturday, December 7. Anyone interested should contact Mr Davies, 4 Ashbourne Road, Belper, DE56 2DA or phone him on 01773 826 433.
