A POPULAR community base in Belper has received funding from Derbyshire County Council — and put some of the cash towards replacing a faulty burglar alarm.

Fleet Arts, on The Fleet, received the £460 grant after its committee approached county councillors Stuart Bradford and Peter Makin to ask for support.

Chris Timms, chairman of Fleet Arts, said: “We approached Cllrs Bradford and Makin after our burglar alarm went wrong.

“We were really pleased when they said they could fund replacing the vital parts. Our building is used by a number of local groups and individuals regularly, including musicians of all ages and two local dance groups.

“As an old building there are always unexpected costs, so the grant has helped us to keep the place affordable and to continue to offer it to more local groups and individuals.”
