Rotary Club of Belper and Duffield
Following Derbyshire County Council’s decision not to continue with their Young Achiever Award, The Rotary Club of Belper and Duffield has decided to instigate a scheme of its own.
The Pride of Belper and Duffield awards will recognise young people, nominated by their school or other youth focused organisation, who have shown exceptional achievement in their lives by overcoming personal adversities or have made personal sacrifice for others.
It is a privilege for the Rotary Club of Belper and Duffield to be able to present these awards, as the motto of Rotary International is, ‘Service above Self’ and reflects the sort of achievements made by the young people. We have approachd all of the senior schools in our area, along with Holbrook School for Autism, the Drop Inn and Portland College at Mansfield, and asked them each to nominate one recipient for this award.
The awards will be presented at a lunch being held at Makeney Hall Hotel, which is one of the sponsors of the event, on Monday, October 20.
Clearly, this is a small beginning in what we hope will become a much wider recognition programme, but we have to start somewhere and Belper and Duffield is at our heart.
We do still need to secure more sponsorship for this event.
We would be glad to have local organisations sponsor tables at the lunch, sponsor the awards or just make a contribution to the general costs of the event.
It will also be possible to place advertisements in the programme for the event.
If you would like to know more about the awards, or how you might be able to sponsor the event in some way then please contact me, either by email at Contact.email@example.com, or on 07768 658461. To learn more about our club you can visit our Facebook page Belper & Duffield Rotary, or our website: www.belperrotary.co.uk or on Twitter @BelperRotary.
The Rotary Club will hold its first charity midsummer ball on June 20. The ball will be held at Morley Hayes in the presence of David Coleman, the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, and will raise money for the air ambulance and Macmillan Cancer Support.
The ball will be a glamorous evening of fund-raising and entertainment in a stunning midsummer setting.
