AMBER Valley Borough Council has been revealed as one of the top ten highest spending authorities on foreign travel.
Between 2009-2011 the council spent more than £12,000 on flights to Sweden and Poland.
Chief Executive Peter Carney said: “In June 2009, we took part in the Mini Olympics – a partnership sporting event involving 10 pupils and five coaching staff from schools in Amber Valley competing in events in Glogow, Poland, at a cost of £3,000.
“In June 2010, we funded a visit to Laholm, Sweden for the same event at a cost of £8,000. The flights form only part of the overall figure which also includes management costs, kit, equipment and a range of accommodation costs.”
