A RIPLEY couple are celebrating 60 years of married life this week.
Jack Burgin swept beau Joyce off her feet at a Belper Assembly Rooms dance in the early 1950s.
And 60 years on, the couple are still together - celebrating their diamond anniversary on Thursday.
Joyce, 83, who is one of a brood of 12 children, said the key to their happy union has always been ‘working together’ and having a tight family.
Frank, 85, worked for most of his life as a miner.
He took jobs at Ripley and Denby Hall pits before retiring at Bentick Colliery.
Now former Belper Mill worker Joyce and Frank, enjoy playing bowls at Marehay - but Joyce could not say who is the best!
The active couple are due to have a party today and enjoyed a weekend in Whitby this week to celebrate.
They have two grandsons and one daughter, Julie Wood, who lives in Allestree.
Joyce, a keen knitter in her younger days, said her and Jack are very proud of daughter Julie, who is a senior sister at the Royal Derby Hospital, in the orthopaedic unit.
