Police have been helping to grow confidence among allotment holders in Heage by setting-up a Neighbourhood Watch style scheme.
Belper Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team is working alongside Heage Parkside Allotment Association to deter crime and vandalism and reassure plot holders.
Members contact officers to report suspicious activity while police circulate information through the Derbyshire Alert messaging system.
Equipment including tools and mowers, have also been marked with a specialist forensic marking kit and signs put up to raise awareness. PC Simon Gilding said: “As well as preventing crime we also hope the initiative will help people to feel safe and their allotments secure.”
