A GANG of “ruthless and clever” crooks pickpocketed an elderly man outside a Denby cash machine.
The incident happened at 11.40am on Wednesday when a 77-year-old-man from Horsley Woodhouse went to the cash machine at the One Stop Shop on Derby Road .
As he was getting cash out, he noticed two women and a man behind him - whom he thinks read his PIN number over his shoulder. When he was walking away one of the women and the man distracted him by asking directions to Nottingham and his cash card was stolen. PC Mick Shaw, of the Kilburn Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “This was a ruthless and clever team of offenders.”
They withdrew cash from the machine - some of which they spent in the One Stop Shop. The victim said the trio spoke with eastern European accents and were all tanned.
A spokeswoman for Derbyshire police said: “One woman was described as slim and wearing a dark brown shirt, pale blue jeans and a shirt black leather jacket. She was carrying a black hand bag and wore her dark hair in a bob. The second woman wore a brown trouser suit land carried a brown handbag. She had long brown hair tied back in a bun. The man was said to be of slim build, with short dark hair. He was wearing a beige jacket and black trousers.”
