Sports clubs and groups are being reminded there’s just one week left to apply for a cash boost in the last round of Derbyshire County Council’s Sports Action Grant scheme.
The £180,000 fund was launched last October and so far £138,430 has been awarded to 176 local groups that made successful applications for grants of up to £1,000 to provide activities which encourage more people to take part in sport and physical activities, promote healthy and active lifestyles and encourage volunteering within sport and improve sporting performance Grants so far – ranging from £100 to £1,000 – have been awarded to projects all over the county including building refurbishment, improvements to pitches and training areas, new equipment, coaching courses and website development.
Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Public Health Councillor Carol Hart said: “We’ve been delighted with the interest shown in our Sports Action Grants since they were launched and I’ve been very pleased to approve grants to show our support for so many local clubs and groups.
“It’s fantastic to see the range of additional activities which will be available to encourage healthy and active lifestyles to even more local people thanks to this funding.”
Applications are now invited for the third and final round which closes on Monday 10 September.
The fund, backed by Derbyshire Olympic badminton star Donna Kellogg MBE, has been distributed over 18 months through three timetabled rounds.
Applications are considered by a panel organised by Derbyshire Sport – a partnership of the county council, other councils and agencies, education and sports groups committed to working together through sport and active recreation to improve the quality of life for local people. Recommendations are passed to the county council which makes the final decision.
