A Heage painter, whose work adorns private collections throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland, is among the first to be exhibited at a Belper gallery.

Geoff Futter, who lives at The Croft, has been chosen to showcase his oil painting of men working at Denby pit at the new Cherry Orchard gallery on Market place

Mr Futter, who works at Slenderella in Belper, said: “I was brought up in Denby, and can remember the pitmen coming home in their muck with black faces after they had finished their shift. I trawled the internet and eventually found the picture I liked and painted it in oils.” The gallery is offering prints of the painting for sale.
