Diamond wedding couple Kay and Bill Bax, who were married on August 14, 1954, have celebrated their 60th anniversary in style with a Champagne afternoon tea party.
Although born and raised in Sussex, Kay and Bill who are both 84 moved to Belper in 1977 when Bill became a manager at town heating firm Glow Worm. Kay, who studied at college in Derbyshire and was keen to return to the area, was a popular teacher at schools including St John’s Primary, Belper. Their son, Ian, and daughter, Mary-Anne also joined them in Belper settling, marrying and raising their families locally. Their older daughter, Susan, remained in Kent. As well as children and grandchildren, the tea party at their home near The Triangle, Belper, was attended by friends as well as relatives who attended the couple’s wedding at St Swithin’s Church, East Grinstead including their bridesmaid, Betty.
