The driver who died in a car crash on the Dronfield bypass on Saturday night has been named by police.

27-year-old Sam Moorhouse, of Wirksworth, died after the yellow Mini he was driving was in collision with a blue Vauxhall Corsa shortly after 9pm.

Police say he received fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene on the A61 at Whittinghton Moor, near Chesterfield.

A woman who was in the car with Mr Moorhouse remains in a critical condition in hospital but the occupants of the Corsa were not seriously injured, police said.

Anyone who saw the cars prior to the accident or the incident itself are asked to call the police on 101.
