Early Christmas for Belper Players

CHRISTMAS has arrived either late or extremely early for members of Belper Players during their latest production.

The long-standing group will mark three Christmas Eves in the play Absurd Person Singular, which is due to be performed later this month.

A small cast of six, including three actors who are new to the group, will join the celebrations, playing three couples who undergo changing fortunes through the three festive periods.

Director Darren Hall said: "It's not an obvious choice, but it's a very funny play. We wanted to do something quite light which people would enjoy."

The production will be the Players' debut performance at the Strutts Centre, on Derby Road. Previously members have rehearsed and performed at The Lion Hotel.

Darren said they were hoping to adapt the large hall at the Derby Road building for further productions.

Absurd Person Singular, which was written by popular playwright Alan Aykbourne, will take place at 7.30pm, from Wednesday, March 17, until Saturday, March 20.

Tickets cost 6, concessions at 5 will be available for the Saturday night.

To book call 01335 370827.

The Saturday night performance is already half sold out, but tickets are available for all other nights.

The last Aykbourne play performed by the group was Absent Friends, at this time last year.
