AN ARTIST who paints entire life stories on one canvas was in Belper at the weekend to capture scenes from the lives of two former Belper News journalists who are to marry.

Bill Kirby, 77, from Sheffield, has been commissioned to paint a picture for the wedding of Tom Cooper, who edited the paper from 2004 to 2006, to Charlotte White, a journalist who also worked on the Matlock Mercury and the Ripley and Heanor News. The painting, which will be finished in about three weeks, is a composite of the newly-weds’ lives and features scenes of Tom on the hockey field and Charlotte horse-riding, as well as the old Belper News office where they met. Bill, who describes his pictures as like Lowry ‘but with more detail’, said: “No other painter does this. What I do can be hard work with the research and travelling to different places - but it’s very rewarding.”
