Six gifted students have spent a day at No10 and Westminster, after being invited to London by the town’s MP.
The pupils toured the Houses of Parliament with Pauline Latham MP before watching Prime Minister’s Questions and attending a meeting with Justine Greening MP, Secretary of State for International Development.
Each of the invited students had been selected for the trip by teachers for their achievements in the classroom.
Among them were Charlotte Ryder of Belper School, Georgia Chapman of Ecclesbourne School, Duffield and Sophie Emms of Woodlands School, Allestree.
They were joined by Tonisha Silver-Russell and Megan Fox of West Park School, Spondon and India Cocking of Ockbrook School.
Mrs Latham said: “It was a pleasure to be able to welcome the girls to the Houses of Parliament and I hope they enjoyed the experience.
“I am always so pleased to see young people taking an interest in politics.
“They were particularly surprised when I took them to 10 Downing Street.”
