Monies for musicians

A PROJECT which gives dozens of young people in Belper the chance to sing or learn an instrument is scaling new heights.

Derbyshire City & County Music Partnership has secured funding of more than £3m from the Arts Council England to carry on its work for the next three years.

Councillor Mike Longden, the county council’s Cabinet Member for Education, said: “The funding will enable us to build on the partnership’s strong track record and continue to give young people musical experiences that will stay with them for life.”

The scheme runs teaching programmes, bands, orchestras and choirs, residential courses, public concerts and offers curriculum support and professional development for teaching staff.
