Pupils from village primary schools had a sporty fun day at John Flamsteed Community School, in Denby, to get into the Olympic spirit.

More than 150 youngsters from primary schools in Denby, Kilburn, Horsley, Horsley Woodhouse and Heage took part in a range of sport and health-related activities with London 2012 as the theme.

They combined healthy ingredients to make delicious smoothies and then ran off their energy in the school gym. Assistant head teacher at John Flamsteed Paul Moore, said the day was aimed at helping year five children in primary feeder schools adjust to the secondary school environment.

The school currently has around 600 pupils aged 11-16 and serves families in the communities of Denby, Kilburn and Street Lane.
