Entries are now open for this year’s instalment of the annual Belper in Bloom competition.

Belper Town Council are inviting all green-fingered enthusiasts to enter the competition and see if they have what it takes to come away with a trophy.

The event for 2015 has been sponsored by Toons Nurseries Ltd, based in Derby.

There are three categories in this year’s event.

They are Best Residential Garden, Best Hanging/Wall Basket and Best Commercial Property.

The winners of each category will be presented with a gift from Toons Nurseries at a ceremony.

Commercial properties that are allowed to enter that category include Public Houses, Banks, Shops, Businesses and Community Buildings.

Belper Town Council are also reminding people that they can nominate someone else during the process and that the Bloom judges must be able to see the entries from the road.

Last year’s event saw a number of excellent entries and in the Best Front Garden were Terence Hallam, with Dennis Stone a runner-up.

Mrs Sims scooped top prize in the Best Hanging/Wall Basket category, with The White Hart public house finishing second.

The Best Commercial Premises gong went to the Black Bulls Head with The Greenhouse finishing as runners-up.

The closing date for entries is July 13, with judging taking place w/c July 20.
