The first entries have arrived for our Life Thru the Lens competition - and they are shots that show off some of Belper’s prettiest features.
Among the photo’s which have been submitted so far are snaps of town landmarks, rural landscapes and the town’s wild creatures.
Richard Fletcher, of Windmill Rise, Belper, sent in a stunning shot which he had taken from the River Gardens of an inqusitive Mallard swimming on the Derwent.
He also emailed in an atmospheric snap looking over the leisure centre at sunset, which had been taken at his home.
Fellow amateur photographer Steve Haywood, of Cemetery Road, in the town, has entered landscapes of the mill which he has captured on a frosty morning looking across to Shottle and during winter sunset lin the direction of The Chevin.
We’ve teamed up with Specsavers in the town for the fourth year running to find the best amateur photographers in the Belper area, with the winner receiving the latest digital SLR camera.
Anyone can enter the competition – you don’t have to have a top of the range camera or brand new kit, just an eye for a great shot – you could even take them on your mobile phone!
We want to see pictures which get to the heart of what the Belper area is all about, in your opinion. We want you to show us how beautiful the town and surrounding villages really are.
Winning this competition could be a dream come true for any amateur snapper wanting to become that little bit more proficient at their art — because of the fantastic first prize.
Up for grabs is a £300 SLR digital camera.
Second prize is a digital camera worth £100, while third prize is a pair of free designer glasses at Specsavers.
Whatever you choose as your inspiration, make sure you get your entries in to be in with a chance of winning.
You can submit up to 10 entries, with the winners to be determined by our judges. The pictures must be your own work and not be computer manipulated. Entries can be sent by email to firstname.lastname@example.org in jpeg format or hard copy to 8 Heanor Road, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, DE7 8 ER.
