Duffield CC 1sts kept up the pressure on the top two teams in Division One of the Derbyshire County Cricket League with a comprehensive win over visitors Ilkeston Rutland on Saturday.
Duffield skipper Paul Bakel won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first, a decision that was to prove a good one.
Ilkeston Rutland lost skipper and key batsman David Smit in the first over of the match, to Luke Webb and found themselves up against it for much of their innings as they lost wickets on a regular basis.
The Duffield bowling unit was in good form as run scoring proved to be difficult for Ilkeston.
Only two batsmen managed to get into double figures, opener Michael Chambers with 30 and Robert Green with 29. Apart from that, the third top scorer was the 11 extras.
Only three Duffield bowlers were required as the visitors were dismissed for 100 inside 27 overs.
Luke Webb took 2-17, Joe Wozniczka-Wells 5-56 and Jono Clare 2-22.
Duffield made fairly light work of knocking off the required runs, taking just 24.2 overs and losing only two wickets along the way.
Openers Chris Sheldon and Matthew Goodacre made 21 and 22 respectively, while Paul Bakel and Peter Jenkins saw their side home, with scores of 35 not out and 18 not out.
As for Duffield 2nds, they were up against Chesterfield Barbarians and drew the game.
Chasing 308 to win, they ended on 225-6.
