GOLFERS have raised £1,000 for charity by taking part in a golf competition against Derby County footballers.

The Super Rams Charity Trophy was up for grabs at Morley Hayes in Morley.

The event was to raise money for the countywide charity Sight Support Derbyshire.

Derby star Jamie Ward said: “The true worth of good eyesight is often taken for granted, but is seldom more beneficial than when playing football, or on a golf course.

“Having taken penalties blindfolded it has given me a real insight into the day-to-day life of blind and partially sighted people and we’re excited to be able to raise some money on the golf course to do our bit.”

The inaugural Super Rams Charity Trophy was competed for in an 18-hole Am:Am Stableford competition, with all money raised going towards supporting blind and partially-sighted people in Derbyshire.

Another event will be held next April. Ring 01332 287008 for details.
