A GOOD SAMARITAN has helped out a man whose stables were destroyed by arsonists.

Vandals struck at Dave Shaw’s Denby smallholding, where he kept two horses and a flock of sheep for breeding, at the beginning of February, destroying the large wooden stables.

But after reading of the damage in the Ripley and Heanor News, kind Julia Wilde, of Ripley, decided to help him out by donating hay for the animals.

Dave said: “That was brilliant of her. She has given me one big bale, which is the equivalent of 12 small ones, plus a wooden pallet and a tarpauline to keep it dry as well

“She’s going to give me another big bale. I collected one this Saturday and I’m going again fairly soon depending on the weather.”

Dave, of Church Street, Denby, has spent more than £20,000 fitting out the stables.

He said it was a miracle none of the animals were hurt in the blaze, which took fire crews more than three hours to bring under control. Police are still appealing for any information about the attack.
