A DEDICATED headteacher has paid tribute to a “lovely” primary school on his retirement.
Dave Smith is calling time on his teaching career after 38 years – the last 17 of which were spent at Smalley Richardson.
The 59-year-old, who finished at the Main Road school last week, now plans to go travelling in his motor home with his wife Jane, and spend more time with his granddaughter Evie, who is two-years-old.
Dave, who also taught at St John’s Primary in Belper and Street Lane in Denby, said: “Smalley has been a big part of my life. It is hard to leave.
“It is a lovely little primary school with tremendous staff, a hard-working PTA, fantastic governors and supportive parents. And the children aren’t too bad either!”
To mark his leaving, Dave was given a Bose music centre and had a party and barbecue. He also got a certificate from Derby County that was presented by boss Nigel Clough.
