A PROJECT near Matlock has been given £500 courtesy of Derbyshire County Council.
In the latest round of Derbyshire Greenwatch Action Grants, the Hackney Leys smallholding was one of two deserving groups to be handed the cash boost.
Named Little Green Space, the scheme looks to improve and enhance the biodiversity of the smallholding by planting shrubs, trees, hedgerow plants and bulbs which attract butterflies and bees across the five-acre site.
The site is set to be used as an outdoor classroom for local schools to raise awareness of environmental issues.
The site will also be used by the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers to provide experience for its Derbyshire Biodiversity Action Team.
