The boss of a Heage construction firm has landed a place on the board of the Department for Transport.
John Kirkland, of Bowmer and Kirkland was appointed as a non-executive director on the body which governs the DofT and delivers ministers priorities.
Mr Kirkland is Chairman of the Bowmer and Kirkland Group of Companies, the largest privately owned construction, engineering and development group, which has has a turnover of £725m.
He is also President of four companies in the United States of America within the Homeland Security field and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Derby.
He is alo well-known for being the longest serving director of Derby County Football Club -from 1981 to 2002 - and became president in 2006, until his retirement in 2008.
