The Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) for Southern Derbyshire has announced that East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EMAS) has been awarded ‘preferred bidder’ status for non-emergency patient transport services.

The handover from the current provider will take place on April 1 next year and the services hope that a smooth transition will ensure that there is no disruption for patients.

Sheila Newport, Chair of NHS Southern Derbyshire CCG, said: “We’re really pleased to have concluded this tender process and to have appointed EMAS to carry out this work.

“EMAS’ experience in patient transport is second to none in this area and they will now combine the non-emergency patient transport – where patients are taken to non-urgent hospital and clinic appointments – with their existing emergency transport role.”
