Big-hearted youngsters at an after-school club in Heage collected toys and handy gifts for the children in the typhoon-hit Phillipines.

Close to 25 children, aged between five and 11, collected the Christmas presents and packed them into shoeboxes, which were then sent to St Peter’s Church in Ripley which is running it’s own appeal.

Janet Brian, proprietor of Heage out of school club, said: “The shoeboxes contain pens, toys and underwear and handy items like toothpaste and soap. It was one of the children suggested that we do this - which I thought was lovely.”
