A fire broke out in Horsley Woodhouse late on Thursday night.
Fire crews from Ripley and Heanor were called to a semi-detached bungalow on Chestnut Close at 11.40pm after a fire started in the lounge.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel jet and a safety jet to tackle the flames.
Two people were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene by ambulance crews and one of them was later taken to hospital.
The fire was out by 0.10am and the crews began ventilating the property.
Crews left the scene at 0.40am.
