Hospice walk in memory of Belper opera singer

A professional opera singer has completed a sponsored walk to a hospice in memory of a Belper colleague who died from breast cancer.

Janet Cowley walked from Treetops Hospice in Risley, Derbyshire, to Kirkwood Hospice, Huddersfield this week to raise money for both charities.

She also led a ‘Concert For Treetops’ in Belper Congregational Church on September 16, and after her 70-mile journey performed a second concert on September 23.

The performances were in memory of Belper-based Helen Beechinor, who received care from Treetops and raised funds for it during her treatment. Helen died in 2007 at the age of 40.
