PRISONERS from Nottingham will refurbish noticeboards in Belper.
The town council has also considered whether or not HM Prison Nottingham inmates could also refurbish street furniture like benches.Cllr Simon Black said: “I visited Nottingham prison. The governor was desperate for meaningful work for the prisoners. If prisons are to be places of rehabilitation rather than retribution – isn’t this a good idea?”
However Cllr Peter Arnold said the scheme would not be financially viable in terms of the journeys required back and forth – and it would be easier to fix or refurbish the benches in-situ. It was agreed town clerk Roz Bullimore would decide what items will be refurbished.
