Staff at Belper Specsavers have handed over £1,000 to help keep the air ambulance flying over the skies of Derbyshire.

Six volunteers from the charity collected money in the street with two people dressing up as Pirates of the Caribbean characters Jack Sparrow and Angelica to boost donations.

A tombola was also organised and tickets for a raffle, which will be drawn in November, were sold.

Belper Mayor Deborah Biss opened the event.

Hannah Fildes, from Specsavers, said: “Hopefully selling the raffle tickets will raise more by the end of the year.”
