A KIND-hearted man from Belper has received an accolade for donating blood 77 times during his lifetime.

Kenneth Blanchon, 70, was among 64 dedicated blood donors honoured by NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) at an awards event in Nottingham.

He received a crystal plate in recognition of his blood donations.

All donors who received awards had donated blood at least 75 times. Those honoured had given more than 4,200 pints of blood in total.

Guest speaker Jon Dummer’s life was saved thanks to blood donors. He was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in May, 2004.

Jon said; “During my treatment I received more than 100 blood and platelet transfusions and without them I wouldn’t have had a hope of surviving. Without the treatments, my wife would have lost her husband and my three daughters wouldn’t have a father. I want to express my gratitude to all those donors who spare an hour of their time to give blood.”
