LETTER: Heage Carnival was a real credit to village

The Heage Out of School Club get on board their float for the carnival parade on Saturday.

On Saturday, June 25, I came to Heage [land of my forefathers!] to see the carnival along with my daughter Tanya, my granddaughter Mia-Esmé and Tanya’s parents-in-law.

Well done to all those good folk who organised this brilliant happening! Well done to my granddaughter Mia-Esmé who was one of the carnival princesses together with Emily Neubert from Belper, Eleanor Waller from Heage and, of course, the carnival queen, Thea Nicholls from Wingfield Park.

These girls were a credit to their parents and schools.

The route went past many houses and gardens bedecked with buntings and had scarecrows peering from the gardens.

I can’t list all the wonderful things that took place especially the procession which went all round both villages despite the hard showers but this day put most Derbyshire villages to shame!

Again, well done everybody.
