Adrian lands top honour
Adrian Stone
a ‘LOCAL hero’ from Belper has won a prestigious national award that celebrates the extraordinary achievements of volunteers.
Adrian Stone was successful at the ‘vinspired’ awards, which recognise selfless volunteers aged between 16 and 25, winning the National Connect award.
The awards are endorsed by Prince William and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg. Adrian’s accolade highlights innovative and effective efforts to bring communities together.
He volunteers at the Drop Inn Centre, on Derwent Street, Belper, where he is an inclusion officer.
Adrian has successfully built the self-esteem of many young people, tackling stereotypes in the process. He has used his sign language skills to break down barriers between the deaf and hearing community, and ran art workshops.
Adrian said: “Reaching out and volunteering my time is so rewarding, both on a personal level and because of the skills it has helped me develop. It gives me a chance to give something back to people in my area.”
