Ambergate carnival lands Lotto cash

Vital funding for Ambergate Carnival has has been secured thanks to a £5,450 grant from the National Lottery's Awards for All programme.

The money will go towards workshops to make sure the event is bigger and brighter than ever.

Claire Sutton, Ambergate Carnival Committee member, said: "The workshops will be for everybody to go and design their own costumes and sculptures for the parade which will include drums and whistles.

"We will have walking floats and for the first time we will have someone to art direct the carnival to make it more exciting. Hopefully we will get the school involved again to make it a spectacular parade."

The annual carnival, which will be held on Saturday, July 12, in the car park of the Hurt Arms on the A6, will have a motion theme.

Residents in the area are being invited to get involved with the theme and prepare floats and costumes in the week leading up to the event.

Fundraisers have also been held to make sure the event can go ahead.

Awards for All makes grants of between 300 and 10,000 to grass-roots community groups and voluntary organisations.
