Belper police station safe from cutbacks

Police chiefs in Amber Valley have given assurances that Belper's police station will be untouched by budget-slashing measures in the force.

Chief Inspector Graham McLaughlin, who is in charge of A division, which includes Amber Valley, promised that there were no plans to close the Field Lane station in the immediate future, but added that there was no guarantee the situation would not change.

He said: "Closing Belper police station is not in our immediate plans, but I'm not saying that in two years it won't be a consideration. Whatever happens there will always be a police presence in Belper."

Amber Valley will join with Chesterfield in a new division when the changes come in next month.

The force aims to save around 13 million in the next two years.
