Plans for Belper’s big Christmas lights switch-on at the end of the month have been confirmed by the town council.
The button will be pressed in the Memorial Gardens on Friday, November 29 by the town mayor, Councillor Deborah Biss, Andrea Fox from the Drop Inn Youth Centre, BBC Radio Derby Presenter Andy Potter and Santa.
The celebrations will run between 5.45pm and 8pm with late night shopping on Dickensian charity stalls, Punch & Judy, a barrel organ, music by Belper Town Wind Band, Santa’s Grotto and a children’s roundabout.
The Royal British Legion Club on Strutt Street will be open and is inviting people to enjoy free tea, coffee and biscuits.
Meanwhile, a Christmas Festival is being held from 5 pm at Strutt Arms Hotel Car Park, Milford
Mayor Deborah Biss, Andrea Fox and Santa will switch on the lights. The children from Milford Primary School have also been invited to sing carols.
On Sunday, December 1 it has been confirmed that the Christmas Food & Real Ale Festival will be held again on Sunday, December 1 from 10am - 3pm.
Entrance is free and will suit all ages.
There will be more than 80 stalls, a Santa’s Grotto in the Royal British Legion Club on Strutt Street and bouncy castles to keep the children entertained, Hog Roasts, Hot Chestnuts and live entertainment will also be on offer.
