Phone giant BT hassubmitted further planning applications as part of its work to install super-fast fibre optic broadband in Belper.

Last week The News told how agents acting for the
telecommunications giant had applied to planning authority Amber Valley Borough Council for permission to install cabinets at Belper Library and the town’s HSBC bank.

Now,the company has asked for approval to site four more of the green cupboards in the Market Place, Derby Road, Bridge Foot and Belper Lane.

The project will see copper connections replaced with “next generation” technology – speeding up internet connections for homes and businesses throughout the town – potentially boosting employment.
