Campaign after £25,000 worth of gear stolen from top band
A £25,000 theft from one of Belper’s most popular bands has prompted an online campaign to replace their custom-made kit which was stolen before a Christmas party.
One of Europe’s leading steampunk bands, BBBlackdog were devastated after their van was raided and thieves took all of their music equipment just hours before the start of a Yuletide gig.
However, they refused to be beaten by the theft and the concert, in Bolton upon Dearne, still went ahead thanks to the loan of equipment from other bands and was streamed to the internet for an audience of thousands.
Now, fellow musicians and supporters have pledged to stage a series of fundraisers for the group, including benefit concerts and singles in a bid to help the band get back on their feet.
A spokesman for the band said: “Many of the things taken are one of a kind, or custom made including Axel’s pink drum kit and two custom made matching basses.
“The new cost of everything is over £25,000, with insurance wanting to cover less than 10 per cent the extra premium charges for a claim, mean its hardly worth claiming.
“We have been blown away by the support and offers coming in of help, fans are even starting a fundraiser website to deal with the offers of donations.”
With nearly 500 gigs, five albums worth of original songs and showcase concerts in Hamburg, Berlin, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Denver, London and Birmingham as well as tours across two continents, BB BlackDog are well established on the Steampunk scene.
They had a busy schedule planned for 2013 and are still planning to honour their commitments, including a gig at Belper’s George & Dragon on February 8.
Among the stolen gear is a custom made pink Yamaha drum kit, drum kit microphones, a Pearl gig drum kit, two custom made basses, a box of Christmasmas presents for fans, charity raffle prizes, guitar pedals, radio system, HD video camera and a merchandise box,
