Carnival plans are taking shape

Preparations are in full swing for Ambergate's carnival which will be held next month.

The celebrations are set to be bigger and better than ever before with activities taking place throughout the week. The actual event takes place on Saturday, July 12.

Kate Pierce, vice-chair of Ambergate Carnival Committee, said: "Plans are really coming together for the summer celebrations with an exciting carnival parade lined up called Ambergate in Motion.

"This will be led by the carnival queen who will be followed by children in colourful costumes. Afterwards there will be dancing diggers, circus skills, Heage Windmillers, Cresswell Marching Band, and Maids of the Mill Dance Team."

The week will kick off with a family sports day on July 6 where there will be medals and trophies for the winners plus children's races. Derbyshire Police will be assisting with the day. Other activities will include dance and percussion workshops.

Kate said: "There will also be a Maypole performance by Ambergate School Children and Street Dance demonstrations too. There will be many stalls, rides, bouncy castles and food and drink available. It looks set to be a great day out."

Ambergate Carnival now has a website to keep everyone up to date with Carnival news. The site has details about the fund raising events, carnival history and sponsorship, plus information about everything that is planned in the run up to the event and on the day itself.
