Council cash will fund £188,000 schools revamp
Two schools are set for major refurbishment work, after Derbyshire County Council agreed funding.
Heage Primary School is to receive £148,192 to improve wiring, heating and fire alarms.
A project to replace windows and tiles at Duffield Meadows School has also been given the green light after the council contributed half of the £40,400 cost.
Headteacher at Heage Primary, Karen Lawson, said: “It will create a much improved learning environment for the children.
“We were very pleased to be awarded the funding, we know there’s not an awful lot of money around at the moment.
“This will make it easier to keep the classrooms warm and make it a much more pleasant place to be.
“We have an old school block which will have its lights improved and ceiling loweredas part of the works.
“Some rooms have high ceilings and old Victorian pipework and this will bring them into the 21st century.”
The school has 180 children on roll.
Children enter the school from the age of four and leave when they reach the end of Year six to attend a local secondary school.
